Find yourself uplifted by the vibrant colours and high energy music of Bollywood. Dance Masala’s classes are an amazing way to have fun, get fit and find community, while gaining a foundation in Bollywood dance.

Our 8-week term classes help develop strength, rhythm, confidence and artistry – offering performance opportunities at all levels. We teach Bollywood, Bollyhop, Dance Conditioning & Stretch, Urban Bhangra, Semi-Classical and Bollyfit (an aerobic style class set to Bollywood music). The term consists of technique followed by choreography!

All Classes are Now Online!

As of the 18th of March, all of our classes are being held online. We are actually super excited about the possibilities of an entirely online studio – it means that students who have moved or missed class can join in on the fun! To participate in our online classes, you will need:

  • – A computer/smartphone with an internet connection and audio (a computer is best)
  • – Space to dance

How do online classes work?

  • – New students are required to sign up following this link 
  • – Every week, we will email you a link to a private Jitsi live stream
  • – Got a question? Comment on the live stream! E.g. ‘Could we do that part again?’
  • – After class, record yourself doing the dance and send it to us for some feedback 😍📷
  • – Please be patient as this is new and we know live internet classes/webinars often have delays. It should take about 5 minutes to set up….we will be learning about this together!

About our Levels

  • Level 1 classes – entry-level – little to no dance experience or training
  • Level 2 classes – 1 year dance experience and training in beginner classes required
  • Level 3 classes – a minimum of 2-3 years prior dance experience and training
  • Level 4 classes – a minimum of 3-4 years prior dance experience and training required
  • Level 5 classes – pro level – a minimum of 6 years of professional training required

6.30-7.30pm Level 1 Bollywood with Shashi

Join Shashi for a fun-filled, typical Bollywood routine! A great introduction to the world of Bollywood dance!

Q: Can I drop into this class casually?

A: Yes! For the rest of the term, Shashi will be teaching a special 2-week choreography!

7.30-8.30pm Dance Conditioning & Stretch (Open Level) with Drea

Want to take your dancing to the next level? Join Drea and Dance Masala’s Performance Company to improve your technique, strength, flexibility and learn injury prevention through this one-hour conditioning and technique class!

 Tuesday Bollyfit, Semi-Classical (Level 2) & Bollyhop (Level 2)

6-6.45pm Bollyfit (Open Level) with Shashi

Getting fit while dancing to Bollywood songs? Is this a dream come true? YES! Join Shashi  for a one-of-a-kind fitness class combining aerobics and cardio to an energetic and joyous playlist of Bollywood songs.

7-8pm Semi-Classical (Level 2) with Drea

Join Drea and learn a beautiful routine influenced by classical Indian dance styles such as Kathak and Bharatanatyam.

Q: Can I drop into this class casually?

A: Commencing this class after March 3 is not recommended as choreography is taught in a sequence and added to weekly.

8-9pm Bollyhop (Level 2) with Kashish & Gitanjali

‘Bollyhop’ combines Bollywood with hip hop, resulting in a hype dance style that’s ridiculously fun! Learn an energetic routine filled with grooves, isolations and, of course, attitude with Kashish & Gitanjali!

A: Commencing this class after March 3 is not recommended as choreography is taught in a sequence and added to weekly.

 Wednesday Semi-Classical (Levels 4-5), Urban Bhangra Technique & Urban Bhangra Choreo (Level 4)

6.30 – 7:45pm Semi-Classical (Levels 4-5) with Drea

Learn a beautiful routine based in the complexities of classical Indian dance. 4-5 years of professional dance experience & training is required.

Q: Can I drop into this class casually?

A: No.

7.45-8.15pm Urban Bhangra Technique (Open Level) with Drea

Nothing is more ENERGETIC than Bhangra! Expand your Bhangra dance vocabulary with this foundational class! It’s the perfect space to learn the basics so you can slay future choreography classes. You must attend this class if you sign up for Bhangra Choreo.

8.15-9pm Urban Bhangra Choreo (Level 4) with Drea

Utilise your Bhangra skills in a high-energy fusion routine that mixes Bhangra with hip hop. Anyone joining for the choreography class MUST also do the technique class. No exceptions.

A: No, commencing this class after February 26 is not recommended as choreography is taught in a sequence and added to weekly.

 Half-Price Fridays

6.30-7.30pm Half-Price Fridays (Open Level)

Join us for our community drop-in classes each Friday! For just $10, join us to move and groove to the latest Bollywood dance songs. Half-Price Fridays has a rotating schedule of teachers, check out our Instagram for a preview of the song, and please bring cash!

Empathy Pricing

If you have lost your job due to COVID-19, we completely empathise. We have made the following classes available for you to pay as you can afford: Bollyfit and Half-Price Friday.

Casual Rates

$20.00 for Levels 1-2 Classes & Dance Conditioning

Become a DM Member!

We are very excited to be offering special DM Memberships for those who are serious about their dance classes! Becoming a DM Member gives you access to discounted classes, with Unlimited Membership giving you the opportunity to try as many of our classes as you’d like! Becoming a DM Member also gives one free costume hire per year (performance hire only) and a bring-a-friend pass (new students only) every term! Talk about value!

For online classes, the minimum membership term is two months. If you decide to terminate your membership within that period, a cancellation fee of $100.00 applies.

2 Class Pass Membership – $30/wk for 2 classes per week

3 Class Pass Membership – $40/wk for 3 classes per week

Unlimited Membership – $45/wk for unlimited classes each week

We accept cash, eftpos and most credit cards. There is a 2% service fee for all credit card and eftpos transactions.

Terms & Conditions of Payment

    • – Members get discounts on all Dance Masala courses and workshops. Please commit to your nominated courses, as missed classes set back both you and other students.
    • – Memberships are designed to flow throughout the year – you can adapt as you go, trying out many different styles.
    • – Membership is for your nominated classes only. All payments are non-refundable and non-transferable.
    • – A program of one-off pop up classes will be available to members between courses e.g. the week of the 9-23 of September between Terms 3 and 4.
    • – All members are entitled to 1 free costume hire per year (performance hire only) and a bring-a-friend pass (to be used by new students only) every term.
    • – If Dance Masala (in its absolute discretion) has to cancel a class, you will receive a credit for another class. This can be redeemed with any Dance Masala class of your level.
    • – Students are asked to keep a record of their payments and receipts.
    • – Dance Masala reserve their right to use substitute instructors in the case of accident or illness (at the same rate).
    • – There is a cancellation fee of $100 if membership is cancelled prior to or within a 3-month period, or 2-month period for online classes.
    • – Membership Specials (unlimited classes per week for $30 per week) last for one month only (the first four weeks of term)and are only available to new students. After the month is over, you will be automatically shifted to 2 classes per week, unless you nominate you would like to do more.
