Growing up in Malaysia, Bollywood was popular entertainment as every restaurant, shopping centre, pubs and bars had Bollywood songs playing through their speakers – I believe my passion for Bollywood dancing bloomed from this exposure. To me, Bollywood dancing was a way of showing my culture, my beliefs and my identity. When I moved to Australia, I felt my passion for Bollywood dancing increased as it was a way for me to keep in touch with my cultural identity, and created a homely feeling for me.
Moreover, Bollywood dancing allows me to escape reality and brings me joy, calmness and bliss. It creates excitement and energy which inspires me to continue dancing since a very young age. I think that Bollywood dance really brings out my creativity as well, as Bollywood dancing not only consists of the dance movements, but also facial expressions, singing the lyrics and expressing the emotions with your body.
I’m so happy to be part of the dance masala team and I am looking forward to grow and expand my dancing experiences with my fellow dancers.
